Founded in 2012, Decon7 Systems evolved from a project to develop and manufacture a product that gets rid of chemical and biological warfare threats. Today, Decon7 Systems' hydrogen peroxide-based product, D7, has become a standard solution for handling biological and chemical contamination at food and beverage production companies.

Chemical contamination sometimes happens when food comes into contact with chemicals during the different stages of food production. Some chemicals, such as cyanogenic glycosides and mycotoxins, occur naturally in some types of food. These contaminants become harmful when they accumulate in the body. This may lead to life-threatening medical conditions such as cancer.

Persistent organic pollutants are other toxic chemicals found in food. They are products of industrial activities that find their way into food through cultivated soil or contaminated plants. An example of such a substance is polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs). Pesticides used in agriculture also may be forms of food contaminants.
